Pondicherry (now Puducherry) or Pondy as it is popularly called is just a 3 hour drive from Chennai along a scenic beach route. The combination of French and Tamil cultural is something we are able to witness here that makes this place a stand alone. The most popular part of Pondicherry is the White Town and it is full of beautiful French aesthetics that have been lovingly preserved, harking back to its French colonial history.
A stroll through the spick and span streets, all called Rue (street in French) something or the other, is just an excuse to click away madly. The signature sunshine yellow buildings with their rustic windows and hanging balconies are a great backdrop for a romantic shoot or just starring on their own. The blooming bougainvillea draped walls, leafy cool boulevards, lovely continental cuisine and friendly locals add a heady mix of flavours to your stay.
A walk down to the Promenade as the beachfront is known here, is another great photographing opportunity. Early morning and evenings are the best times to get that spectacular shot. The French Colonial Offices, war memorial and cafes line one side of this broad avenue but on the other, it is only the sea stretching to as far as you can see. The sea with its 3 different shades of blue, the spray thrown up from the rocks below and the 1.5km promenade that is open to only pedestrians in the evenings, make this a heady mix.
Pondicherry for That Pre-wedding Shoot Magic
Pre-wedding shoots or engagement shoots are all the rage now and for those in South India what better than a drive down to beautiful Pondicherry for something different. The breath-taking landscapes and colourful streets offer a locale like no other. And what better excuse to spend time with your fiancé in such romantic surroundings. In fact, even if it is not a pre-wedding photo shoot, it’s still perfect for some romantic though- the- lens vacation shots.
